Artist's Comments

--> THANK YOOOOUUUUU EVERYONE ; A ; this is a DD now...woah ahahah... I still can't believe it ; u ;

p.s.: I consider this FINISHED. Because I already gave it to my friend, so I won't retouch it. :) Of course, I still appreciate critiques and all the help everyone gave me. I know it's not nearly perfect, but it'll most probably stay this way. once again, THANK YOUUUUUUUUU, EVERYONE!!

--> EDIT #2 : Still fixing all the horrible mistakes ; u ; I think the my worst choice, in this pic, was to work at veery tiny dimensions. I should start using larger canvases ;;
I decided to keep the background kind of rough... but meh, I wonder if it'd work better 100% rendered...
Again, thank you all so much for your help! :heart:

--> EDIT: Re worked on it! Especially on the banches and some anatomy issues. ( still a lot to do, though ;; ) THANK YOU ALL!! T________________T I owe you all beautiful people a loooot! Thank you sooooooooo much for your precious help!! m(_ _)m

>> PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ HERE << ;________________________;

m(_ _)m I NEED HELP WITH THIS.
So if you happen to have some free minutes, could you please please please critique it? ;____________________; please, I reeeaaaeally need help with it. I'm sorry, I know I sound stupid and I know this is really a bother, but please if you can, critique it like there's no tomorrow T___T I will love you forever and give you cookies if you do!
m(_ _)m

I want to make it better but ARGH MY BRAIN. IT CAN SEE THAT IT'S OFF BUT CAN'T SEE *WHAT* IS OFF.

But I need this picture. It's for a friend. It seems like a thousand years since we last talked. I drew this for him, and I want it to be pretty, so maybe he'll like it...even just...a bit...maybe.

It's because I started reading LOTR again. I promised my friend a picture of an elf, something like...a year ago. Now it's done. But I still don't like it ;____; I'M HOPELESS AT BACKGROUNDS. WHAT CAN I DO. PRACTICING IS NOT HELPING. HOUSTON, WE HAS A PROBLUM.

I'm so shameless and pitiful .____. I'll go hide in my corner. Bai bai ;___;

Oh, I really like this, colors are great and so is the drawing. The ear is at a bit of an odd angle, maybe move it up a little? For backgrounds, turning textures into brushes is a lot of fun, they work really well too, I'm sure you could find some for trees. Otherwise, it's coming along really well. I hope this helps. (:
:iconoplan30:
maybe its due to my lack of experience but...looks pretty perfect to me!!
im sure itll be a fave of many people here^^

looks like one of those daily deviation types

Hi im looking for artist friends.

:iconlaevan:
Thank you! I'll try moving the ear, now that you mentioned it, it looks really off ; u ;
as for the trees, I just prefer to draw everything D: but that's because Painter bruses are hard to understand, so I just use some kinda basic one for everything |D

Thank you again for your help! :hug:

For my taste is perfect.
I'm sure he will like it, i swear.

She have a mysterious light, a glowing dunnowhat. Her expression is sad but strong at the same time, think that makes this draw mysterious, pretty, sad and melancholic.

The background is simple but in general looks really cool. Maybe, if I drew it, I would detailed more the bottom part, but anyway, don't take my opinion seriously XD
I'm not an expert, i only wanted to say my opinion.

You made a good job, be relaxed, he will like it ^^

Sorry for mah English D: Is so damnpoor, I tried to explain myself the best i could do >.<

eeeh thank you so much ;____; :heart: :heart: you're just too kind ahaha... ; u ; :hug:

I think the background is fine. It's simple, but it makes it seem mysterious and like you could very easily get lost in those woods. Maybe if you feel adventurous, try putting a little bark texture to the trees closest to the foreground? I'm not exactly awesome at backgrounds, either, so I am afraid I won't much help in that area.

The figure looks fine, except it looks to me like skull is a lot longer in width then it should be, it has some very very thick hair. And while I know elves are supposed to be thin and airy, the arm looks a little twiggy? with the way you have the folds on the wrist makes it seem like the actual wrist beneath it is impossibly skinny.

And probably some more shading to show that the hand is actually resting on the cloak (like the cloth reacting and folding to the weight/grip of the hand) would make it seem more connected rather then seeming like you're just trying to show off the hand.

over all though, I think this is beautiful, and I really like the green and blues in contrast with the white.
:iconnatzlovesyou:
Okay, I hope this is of some use for you.
BACKGROUND:
-Maybe if you used a broader palet of colors for the trees and the sky, the whole artwork will acquire the depth that it's missing.
- I'd suggest adding clouds, stars, and/or clouds to the sky, or even just a random mix of cold colors so that there is more 'life' to it.
- Perhaps if you added more and longer branches to the trees, even if you did blur them at the ends they could look more real-like instead of a simple painting of trees, you know what I mean? In my personal opinion, trees with lots of thin branches look especially elegant and give a sense of "fullness" to the artwork
- Perhaps you could try to paint a ground, grass or a pebble path to show just where the trees come from and to add a bit of a linking between the elf and the background.

LINK BETWEEN THE ELF AND BACKGROUND:
- you should add elements that mix both (for example, adding a color from the background to the elf or viceversa) so that they don't look like to separate objects that have been placed together but a flowing picture.
- Perhaps you could add think strands of hair slightly floating to give a sense of movement to the elf. Even if you want the elf to look still, there is always a sense of grandness about elves, there's an always-present breeze moving their hair and clothes just slightly,maybe you could add that, too.

:D
Hope I was useful.

XO and some cookie dough,

:heart:'s you

It's already really pretty ><!

Well, for the background, try to make something more "feeric": in LOTR, try to find inspiration in Galadrian's garden -i don't remember where she lives, sorry OTL-.
Try to add some lights between the trees (..."glow worm"?..Sorry my english sucks OTL), make the sky "alive", add stars: elf loves them.

The girl herself is pretty, but her hand placement is quite strange. Does she has a missing arm?
Work on her clothes details. Nothing to much, just simple details (dunno, ring maybe?).

Don't worry about your friend, I'm sure he will be happy to have it and will love it \o/

Cheers!

Thank youuuuu!! ; x ; :heart: thank you so much, your words really helped ;___;

I considered rendering the bottom part too, but I thought that I would most probably mess everything up, so I just left it kind of...abstract-ish. Ahahah. I faillllll so much. :'D But yessss I'll try following your suggestion ; u ;

Thank you again!! :hug: :hug: ( and your English is fiiiiine ;____; :heart: )
:iconlaevan:
<3 Firstly, thank you for your awesome, awesome, awesome comment and for taking the time to write it ; u ;

I will try to add some bark texture! It's a nice idea, thank you! I wanted to keep the background kind of abstract or something, but I think it'd look better with some more detail.

Ack. Now I can't look at that head :'D I'm sooo gonna rework that ahaha...I thought it was the forehead...but it's really the whole skull D: woah.

Oh that's because in my head, I wanted her to look like she was moving the hand over her heart...but it doesn't look like it :\ I'll add some shadows and folds and try to make it look like it's resting on the dress :3

Thank you thank you thank you again! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
